Mission
The Outbound Summer Research Program offers KFUPM undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct research at a renowned international university or research institution. This program aims to cultivate research skills and broaden academic horizons
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this program, the applicant must satisfy the following conditions:
- Must be a full-time KFUPM undergraduate student
- Minimum sophomore standing
- Cumulative GPA of 3 or higher
- Endorsement from potential advisor
Application Process
- Identify a Research Opportunity: Students can either:

- Secure a research opportunity directly with a top research group internationally.
- Join a KFUPM faculty member's research project through the outbound program.
- Submit Required Documents: Students must submit the following documents to the Undergraduate Research Office (URO) before the deadline of Monday, April 01, 2024:

- Acceptance letter or email from the advisor, including a brief description of the research topic
- Completed application form
- A recent copy of the student's transcript
- All documents should be submitted online before 4:00 pm – Thursday, May 01, 2024.
Duration and Venue
Minimum of 8 weeks (40 hours per week) during the summer in international university lab, or research institution
Accomplishment & Assessment
At the end of the program,
- The participant should submit a final report to the URO, and publication (conference or journal) is encouraged
- The participant should prepare a poster/presentation on his research for participation in the Undergraduate EXPO (Poster or Oral), if possible.
Incentives for Students
The program provides the following incentives for the students:
- Round-ticket
- SAR 2000/month covering all other expenses
- Program Certificate: Upon successful completion of the program
- Not credited but it will be included in the student’s non-academic transcript
